And Pot # 4 now looks like 1 & 2.
Not only did they break these off, THEY ATE THE PLANTS!! I have never seen squirrels so much as bother my geraniums over the past 14 years and suddenly they decide they're gourmet fare. I'd had some of these plants for close to ten years.
I can only count 10 of them at one time some days.
Y'all take care.
Oh no! Naughty things. Try moth ball crystals in the pots--I know they work on rabbits. :(
ReplyDeletesometimes those wild animals just sorta go nuts on your property. We had that with raccoons a couple of years back. They would come around and leave, but one summer they went nuts--tore up the pond, killed a rabbit in the yard, and pretty much caused a mess everywhere. We finally had to hire someone to trap them. It was a tough decision, but we couldn't risk anyone getting hurt with this band of thugs.
I hope those naughty squirrels move on. Or maybe you should put out some food for them so they don't continue killing your plants. It's just a thought...
Lin, I already feed the little critters royally! They eat far more of the sunflower seeds and other bird feed that I put out than the birds do. And....I also put out corn on the cob for them!! I'm about ready for the trap and a trip.

ReplyDeleteMy recently planted flowers near the mailbox have lots of fresh holes amongst them. Each day I check the mail and "fix" them and then my fellow landscapers have to dig anew.

Other landowners, viewing the non-native species as a fashionable garden novelty, soon followed suit.
More than a century later, up to 5 million greys are now estimated to inhabit much of the woodland across the UK. Within my lifetime, their presence will result in the extinction of our wonderful native Red.
May I respectfully suggest a gun ..... apparently they make reasonable eating.

DeleteI have heard that chilli powder is a deterrent, OK you have to reapply it after rain but I've read that sprinkling chilli over plants and bird food keeps squirrel away. Something about mammals being able to taste the capsaicin but birds can't.
Gosh, we have lots of squirrels but they've never bothered any of my plants (although they HAVE buried nuts in some of my pots in the fall!)

ReplyDeleteDo I ever know how you feel! I got some "extra" strawberry plants from a local grower this year. Planted 'em in one of those "hangy-down-planters" (so proud of myself). Would you believe those varmints pulled the strawberry plants out, root and all ?!?!? I am definitely NOT a fan of squirrels. LOL BTW, saw your blog on Syrup n Biscuits blog roll, and saw you were a Florida girl too. Just had to drop by for a visit and say hey!
