Our Winter Storm

We truly did have a winter storm.  It was nasty no matter how you looked at it.  We got freezing rain first, then sleet and then a tiny bit of snow.
The birds and squirrels were feeding at a feverish rate, trying to take in enough calories to help keep them warm.
The first thing I noticed when the temperatures started dropping was the formation of icicles on the bird feeders.
They finished off the feeders in one day.  When I went outside the next morning to refill them, I crunched on the ice the whole while.   Our temps stayed below freezing from Tuesday until early on Thursday.   The ice in my yard didn't all melt until Friday.  I recall times like that while growing up here in northwest Florida, but this is the only time it has been like this in the past fifteen years.

Now, its just cloudy and dreary but quite warm - in the low 60's.  You can bet if it stays this way, our plants will start springing forth in the next couple of weeks.  It's a few weeks early, but if we don't get any more freezing spells, it'll be okay.

No other exciting news to share at the moment.  Hope my northern friends stay warm and safe with all these storms coming through.

Y'all take care.

  2. I'd be happy with rain of any sort and "a little bit of snow." We are getting anywhere from 5 - 10" every other day. It's not fun. We are running out of places to stack the snow.

  3. I didn't send it to you buddy, lol really I didn't! :-) Poor creatures (and humans) dealing with the uncommon snow - they're lucky to have you keeping them fed and able to stay warm(ish) with full bellies....

    Still miserable here - another storm due Tue/Wed - at least it's not in the negative numbers this week (it's something of a break). What a joy this Spring will be (and youcanbetcha I'm counting every-single-day-down, lol)

    Hugs and stay safe/warm!

  6. Southern snows are always so icy! Add your Floridian humidity and it makes for bone chilling weather. I'm sure you're feathered friends are grateful you keep those feeders filled!

  7. Hey are you in that nasty storm that is in the south right now. I know it hit the Carolina's, not sure about Florida. What crazy weather we are having. Our neighbors headed south on Sunday to get out of the winter weather and I'm a little worried about them! I hope they stay until it's over. Spring will be here soon. Keep feeding those birdies!!!!

  9. Sorry I am late visiting you, just don't seem to be doing much blog-reading at present.

    Hope your storm has stayed away, right now England is in the middle of the closest thing to a hurricane I think this country has ever experienced. It's wild out there, thousands of people flooded, acres and acres of farmland under water and no end in sight. The weather is dreadful both sides of the Atlantic, you stay safe too :}

    I hope you do get an early Spring. We all deserve that after such an awful Winter.
